Title: Pathological and Biochemical Assessment of Gamma-Ray Induced Mutants for Resistance to Yellow Rust in Wheat

Abstract: Phenolic compounds and polyphenol oxidase activities in plants are considered as major agents for host chemical resistance to fungal diseases. In the present study, determination of these activities was used to assess resistance of wheat mutants against the fungus Puccinia Striiformis causing yellow rust disease. On these grounds, two local wheat varieties (Sakha-69 and Giza-163) were treated by gamma-ray doses (50, 100 and 150 Grey) to induce mutations for resistance to the causal fungus of yellow rust. The study was carried out for 4 generations (M1 to M4) from 1994 to 1998...
