Abstract: The apostasy of Musaylamah the liar and those who were in league with him among the Banu Hanifah was the most challenging movement that faced the Muslim state due to their physical and human resources. Despite the fact that most of the Banu Hanifah ral-lied to the cause of Musaylamah, a part of the tribe and some other neighboring tribes that were living with them maintained their Islam and were in contact with the Muslim state in al-Madinah, furnishing it with information about those who apostatized and the situation of al-Yamamah, and they were a great help both morally and physically in facing the apostasized people. They also played a useful part in exposing Musaylamah as a liar and a false prophet. When the Muslim forces marched to fight the apostates led by Khalid b. al-Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) those people who kept their Islam joined him and fought with him the battle of "Agraba." After the Muslim triumph over the apostates (al-murtaddun), the Muslim state preserved their former status and did not touch their property. Besides, they were strengthened and given adminstrative positions in al-Yamamah. They were also allowed to participate in the conquest (al-jihad) with the Muslim armies inside Arabia and outside it, while the apostates were barred from that honor by Caliph Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him)...
